As he celebrated his 101st New Year’s Day, President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints extended an invitation for those considering new and renewed resolutions for the year 2025.
It’s an invitation he has repeatedly given since becoming prophet and President of the Church seven years ago in January 2018—spend time in the temple.
“I invite you to come to the temple as often as your circumstances allow,” President Nelson wrote in a Jan. 1 social media post.
“In the house of the Lord, we focus on Jesus Christ. We learn of Him and His gospel. We make covenants that bind us to Him and to our Heavenly Father. Through these temple experiences and others, we are strengthened to achieve our New Year’s resolutions.”
Throughout his prophetic ministry, President Nelson has extended several invitations to help Latter-day Saints strengthen faith in Jesus Christ. Here is a chronological look at some of those invitations.
‘Stay on the Covenant Path’
In a January 2018 press conference following his ordination as President of the Church, President Nelson said: “Now, to each member of the Church I say: Keep on the covenant path. Your commitment to follow the Savior by making covenants with Him and then keeping those covenants will open the door to every spiritual blessing and privilege available to men, women and children everywhere.”
Whether one is moving along the covenant path, has slipped from the path or can’t see the path from where they are, President Nelson said to priesthood holders during the April 2019 general conference: “I plead with you to repent. Experience the strengthening power of daily repentance—of doing and being a little better each day.”
