A new GENTRI video asks an important question for this time of year: “Do you see Christmas through the eyes of a child?”
To help viewers understand how children “see Christmas,” the gentleman trio performs “Do You Hear What I Hear?” while interspersing the song with footage of kids recounting the Nativity story.
“So He had a birthday,” says one toddler, while more children describe how Mary and Joseph loved each other, dated, married, and looked for a place for Mary to have her baby—but since the “hotel” was full, the innkeeper let them sleep in a stable instead.
Mentioning the angels, the star, and the wise men, the children also recall gifts that they imagine were given to the Christ child, including onesies, blankets, rattles, stuffies, rubies, diamonds, and binkies. They also shared toys they would like to have brought. “I don’t know why they’d give him . . . frankincense,” reasons one little girl. “He’s a baby.”

But while there are moments of laughter in the video, it is clear that the true message of Christmas for both the children and the members of GENTRI is about the King of Kings, who “will bring us goodness and light,” as the lyrics in the song say. One child at the end of the video offers a touching summary, saying, “I love Jesus Christ, and I think it’s one of the greatest stories ever.”
