Are you a notetaker during Sunday School or scripture study? Jotting down ideas can be a useful method for remembering your thoughts or asking questions. Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery had lots of questions during the translation of the Book of Mormon, and Doctrine and Covenants 10–11 contain the answer to their desires. So, sit down and take note to see the hand of God.

Segment 1

Scriptures:
D&C 11:12 (The spirit inspires good)
D&C 10:2 (We take ourselves from God)
D&C 10:5 (Pray to conquer Satan)
D&C 11:6,9,18,20 (Keep the commandments)
Helaman 5:12 (Satan cannot defeat those built on the rock)
D&C 10:58,61,62,70 (The light of the world)

Words of the General Authorities:
Just as the depth of my gratitude for the Savior grew as He mercifully helped me to repair the “unrepairable” painting, so has my personal love and gratitude for my Savior intensified as I’ve sought to work with Him on my weaknesses and to be forgiven of my mistakes. I will forever be grateful to my Savior that I can change and be cleansed. He has my heart, and I hope to do whatever He would have me do and become. (Kristin M. Yee, “The Joy of Our Redemption”, October 2024 General Conference)

Study Helps:
The object of prayer is not to change the will of God but to secure for ourselves and for others blessings that God is already willing to grant but that are made conditional on our asking for them. Blessings require some work or effort on our part before we can obtain them. (Prayer, Bible Dictionary)

Segment 2

Scriptures:
D&C 10:20-28 (Reality of Satan)
D&C 10:4 (Don’t pull more than you have strength)
D&C 10:65 (Gathered by God)

Words of the General Authorities:
The key phrase in this verse is “continually holding fast” to the rod of iron…Perhaps this third group of people consistently read and studied and searched the words of Christ. Perhaps it was the constant flow of living water that saved the third group from perishing. This is the group you and I should strive to join. (David A. Bednar, “A Reservoir of Living Water”, BYU Speeches delivered on February 4, 2007)

Segment 3

Scriptures:
D&C 10:65-69 (Come to God)
Isaiah 30:15-16 (Saved in rest)

Words of the General Authorities:
The Lord knew—in this fast-paced world full of distractions and in commotion—that making quality time for Him would be one of the major challenges of our day. Speaking through the prophet Isaiah, He provided these words of counsel and caution, which can be likened unto the tumultuous days in which we live:

“In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not. “But ye said, No; for we will flee upon horses; therefore shall ye flee: and, We will ride upon the swift; therefore shall they that pursue you be swift.”

In other words, even though our salvation depends on returning to Him often and resting from the cares of the world, we do not. And even though our confidence will come from a strength developed in quiet times sitting with the Lord in meditation and reflection, we do not. (L. Todd Budge, “Seek Him with All Your Heart”, October 2024 General Conference)

Segment 4

Scriptures:
John 10:9-10 (Christ is the door)
D&C 10:70 (Christ is the light)

Segment 5

D&C 11:8,10,14,17,21,27 (What to desire of the Lord)
D&C 11:20-21 (Obtain the word before declaring)
D&C 59:3-4 (Commandments not a few)
2 Nephi 32:3 (Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost)
D&C 11:27-28 (The Lord speaks to everyone)

Words of the General Authorities:
Brothers and sisters, for the past few minutes I have attempted to differentiate between obedience that is predominately complying and conforming in nature and a higher level of obedience that includes spiritual submission and enables us to receive ". . . commandments not a few . . . ." (David A. Bednar, “Heartfelt and Willing Obedience”, BYU-I Speeches delivered on June 27, 2002)
