Southern Utah University continues to celebrate the excellence of achievement by both faculty and students. Friday, May 2, marked the graduation of 1,764 students at the university’s 115th commencement celebration. Valedictorian Kori Ann Corbridge maintained a 4.0 GPA while tutoring fellow students in math for more than 30 hours a week. Sociology major Sarah Pirzada spoke at the 58th session of the commission on the status of women at the U.N. headquarters. And Ann Middleton led a group of fellow students in getting a compilation of art book published as part of a senior project.

The university celebrated surpassing the $100 million capital campaign goal by $5 million while breaking ground on the University’s single largest building project—a $35 million Beverley Taylor Sorenson Center for the Arts complex. SUU’s Rural Health Scholars program provides hands-on training for students in a variety of professional fields. The program just celebrated its 10-year anniversary with an astounding 90% medical school placement rate over the decade. The University also set a new standard for community service as the students completed over 190,000 hours of service work during this academic year.

Psychology Department Chair Lynn White exemplified the high quality of SUU’s faculty this spring as she was named by the Rocky Mountain Psychological Association as the Faculty Mentor of the Year, for excellence in mentoring undergraduate research.
