President Nelson: "The Gospel of Jesus Christ Has Only One Purpose"

During his world tour, President Russell M. Nelson shared many inspiring messages with Latter-day Saints. While in Bengaluru, India, President Nelson shared with KSL the purpose of the gospel and his reason for traveling the world over: "The gospel of Jesus Christ has only one purpose, really, bottom line, and that's to make life better for people. And that's what we are going to do."

President Nelson's words echo those found in 2 Nephi 2:25, "Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy." During his world tour, President Nelson shared many uplifting messages with Latter-day Saints, helping to spread the joy of the gospel.

And President Nelson made it clear in all of his messages that two things bring joy and improve the lives of Saints around the world.

“Really everything we’ve done in these last few days together circling the globe could be summed up in two words—the temple,” said President Nelson in his last stop on his tour in Hawaii. “In Jerusalem, we talked about the temple Jesus loved. And in several cities, we talked about the temple that is going to come to their place, and here in the shadows of the temple in Hawaii we talked about temples again."

On Facebook, he added:

I testify that for every one of us—no matter what part of the world we live in—the temple is our ultimate destination here on earth. All the blessings that God has in store for His faithful people come in the temple. Everything that we do in the Church—every class that we teach‚ every advancement in classes—it all leads to one place, and that place is the temple.

The second common message was the sustaining love of our Heavenly Father and the sacrifice of our Savior. In a Facebook post during the tour, President Nelson shared:

I testified that God is our Father. We are His children, created in His image. We don't look alike. That's good. We have individual identities, spiritually and physically, but we are His children.
Our Heavenly Father wants us to come home, but He gives us the dignity of choosing to come home. He desires for us to live with Him when we’re through with this mortal experience.
Through His Only Begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, He gave us that great gift of the Atonement so we can repent of our mistakes. We all make mistakes—there is nothing unusual about it. But we can repent, and, through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, there is no mistake that cannot be forgiven.
Jesus is the Christ, and His way of life is the way of joy and happiness, not only in this life, but in the life ahead, when our Father hopes we will return home to Him.

After his visits to Hong Kong and Thailand, President Nelson added:

Spending the last couple of weeks visiting with God’s children across the globe has been such a meaningful experience for me. We are brothers and sisters in every sense of the word. . . .
We have taught about God our Father and what it means to literally be a child of God. We are created in God’s image. Male and female—He created us all.
