Make some room, Andy Reid. A newly minted Super Bowl winner and Latter-day Saint head coach is coming to the NFL.

The New Orleans Saints have snatched up the Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as their new head coach—and Moore is a Latter-day Saint.

Who is Kellen Moore?

Thirty-six-year-old Moore has spent the last six years as an offensive coordinator in the NFL. The year after he ended his playing career as a quarterback at Boise State, Moore joined the Dallas Cowboys as the team’s quarterbacks coach in 2018. The next year, he was elevated to offensive coordinator. He spent four years in Dallas, then a season with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023, and a year with the Philadelphia Eagles, ending the season with a shiny new Super Bowl ring.

Moore becomes the second member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be a current head coach in the NFL, joining his Super Bowl opponent, Chiefs’ Head Coach Andy Reid.

Moore was also among fellow Latter-day Saints as he helped coach returned missionaries Britain Covey and Tanner McKee during his time with the Eagles. Of Moore, Britain Covey said, “He’s really well-respected across the league. ... I feel like I’ll be able to learn a lot from him.”

And now in New Orleans, Moore will be paired with other Latter-day Saint faces—former BYU quarterback Taysom Hill, who has played for the Saints since 2017, tight end Dallin Holker, linebacker Nephi Sewell, wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, and running back Jamaal Williams.

“I am excited to join the New Orleans Saints and deeply appreciate the faith that Mrs. Benson and the entire Saints organization have placed in me,” Moore shared in a statement after the announcement. “I look forward to embracing the challenges ahead and am eager to get started. I would also like to thank the Philadelphia Eagles for an incredible 2024 season. I’m excited to begin this new chapter.”

Kellen Moore’s Latter-day Saint Faith

BYU head coach Kalani Sitake told the Deseret News, “I am excited for Kellen. He’s calling plays and doing some really cool things. Brother Moore is doing some work there. So there is some good representation from our church in this game.”

Before their Super Bowl win, Moore told the Deseret News that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ teachings—including the importance of family— have helped him pattern his life on and off the field.

“The beauty of this profession is, it’s a really fun profession. It’s a really challenging profession, but you’ve got to keep it in perspective,” he said. “The ability to separate when you go home, I think it’s really important that you’re with your family. You allow that separation to exist.”
