Last week, former Major League Baseball pitcher and mission president Jeremy Guthrie and his wife, Jenny, finished their full-time missionary service presiding over the Texas Houston Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Since returning home, Guthrie has taken to social media to share his parting thoughts about their experience.
“The last 3 years in Houston presented some of my greatest challenges that I have had in my life,” the 41-year-old World Series pitcher noted. “At times the emotional pain felt like too much. I am grateful to have been strengthened through Christ’s sacrifice, also know as His Atonement, to be able to work through the challenges & overcome. The support & encouragement of Jenny, our children, hundreds of missionaries, & too many friends to name, were everything to me. Thank you.”

On top of such a drastic life change for their entire family and serving during a global pandemic, Sister Jenny Guthrie also gave birth to a baby girl, Lucy, while they were presiding over the mission. Their three other children were living with them in Houston, Texas as well.
“A full-time missionary is asked to devote all of their time & attention to serving God & His children, in doing so, I have experienced an increased knowledge & testimony of Jesus Christ & His gospel,” Guthrie shared. “I see more clearly & with greater faith the path that God has prepared for me. I desire to always grow my faith in Jesus as well as help & invite others along the way to ‘seek this Jesus, that the grace of God the Father, and also the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost may be and abide in you forever’ (Ether 12:41).”
