Sunday, November 10, 2024, was a historic day—centuries in the making. President Russell M. Nelson, who recently turned 100 years old, dedicated the Deseret Peak Utah Temple, the Church’s 200th house of the Lord.

“When I was born, there were just six operating temples in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” President Nelson reflected in a recent social media post. “The Deseret Peak Temple will be the 200th in the world. Just think of it! It took the Church until the year 2000 to dedicate the first 100 temples, and now, just 24 years later, we are dedicating the second 100.

“The Lord is truly hastening His work. I am filled with gratitude for the Lord’s mercy in guiding us to bring temples closer to members of the Church throughout the world.”

Approximately 300 people gathered inside the temple for the dedication in Tooele, Utah. The temple district includes 12 stakes in western Utah, and these congregations also participated in the event via one broadcast session.

“We think of moments when we can say ‘Hallelujah!’ and for us this is one of those moments,” Elder Gary E. Stevenson told the Church News. “This is a moment—the 200th in this dispensation now—that allows us to look heavenward and recognize the Lord’s love for each one of us.”
