Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf recently shared some cheerful advice on managing relationships in the ongoing pandemic.

On Facebook, he wrote that people have asked him if he has more time on his hands since he is not traveling on Church assignments personally visiting Latter-day Saints.

“I feel that I am actually busier than ever!” wrote Elder Uchtdorf. “I am not traveling, but I am using technology to connect with people all over the world.”

In an article from Church Newsroom, Elder Uchtdorf said he prefers the term “physical distancing” over “social distancing” when it comes to taking precautions against the pandemic. He and his wife, Sister Harriet Uchtdorf, frequently engage in video calls with their family and friends.

“During this time, we have learned how important and vital it is to our well-being to stay socially close to family, friends, and our brothers and sisters in the Church of Jesus Christ,” wrote Elder Uchtdorf in a Church Newsroom article.

As they interact with others, Elder and Sister Uchtdorf try to follow their own recommendation: “Mask your face, don’t mask your heart.”

“More frequent social contact with friends and family helps us to share more of our inner thoughts and hopes. Somehow, these challenging times helped us to be more open about the feelings of our soul. We realized even more clearly how special it is not to hide or mask the feelings of our hearts from those we love most,” wrote Elder Uchtdorf.
