Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles recently shared that because the pandemic has different effects on everyone, personal revelation becomes an “incomparable gift.” He has witnessed this in the Church's response to the present worldwide situation. Latter-day Saints can look to senior Church leaders as an example of how to act on revelation rather than being held back by fear.
“There is not a hint of fear. Instead, we are asking: ‘How can we do things better? How can we improve? How can we bless our people?’" says Elder Renlund.
He went on to say that leaders of the Church are, “packed with full confidence that the Savior will get us through this. And the only concern is, ‘Are we going to learn what we need to learn?’”
Elder Renlund explains that understanding what lessons the Lord has in mind for Latter-day Saints will take work. He says that even as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles he was “not issued a hardwire to heaven.” He too has to study out his questions and strive to keep his mind from becoming too occupied with earthly matters.
“To think that God will just simply reveal what we have not studied is naive and nonsensical,” says Elder Renlund.
As Latter-day Saints seek to stay focused on Christ by receiving revelation, Elder Renlund promised that they will be “less bothered by individual circumstances.” He says, “We can experience afflictions … but they can be swallowed up in the joy of Christ.”
