The United Arab Emirates’ Higher Committee of Human Fraternity has called for a special day of service, fasting, and prayer on Thursday, May 14, and Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles voiced support on behalf of all members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“Our hearts are joined with our brothers and sisters in the Muslim, Catholic, and other faith traditions in their efforts for this important cause,” Elder Bednar said in a Facebook post Thursday morning. “As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we believe in a living God who hears and answers prayers. We believe that fasting and prayer can connect our hearts to the power of God. I pray that each of us will continue to petition God for relief from this global pandemic.”
The call to joint prayer amongst all believers originated on May 2, and comes one month after Catholics, as well as Latter-day Saints, evangelicals, and people of many various religious traditions, joined in prayer on Good Friday, April 10.
“Each one, from wherever they are and according to the teachings of their religion, faith or sect, should implore God to lift this pandemic off us and the entire world, to rescue us all from this adversity,” the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity said regarding this “Prayer for Humanity.”
