This question has been the cause of speculation for many of God's children throughout millennia.
However, a new Church video explains the answer in less than four minutes.
"Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe that before all people were born on earth, we lived as spirits with God—our Heavenly Father," the video explains.
