A children’s choir from northern Utah sang at the Saturday afternoon session of the October 2024 General Conference. Dressed in white, the children were an angelic sight.

They sang “Holding Hands Around the World,” “Gethsemane,” “Redeemer of Israel” (with the congregation), and “When the Savior Comes Again.” “Gethsemane” and “When the Savior Comes Again” are both new additions to the hymnbook.

The children’s sweet testimonies touched many. On social media, Billie Sue McNeil wrote, “Where else on this earth, or in the heavens, do children have the opportunity to teach such tender, merciful concepts of our Saviour, to the world! Beautifully presented with strength of spirit, belief, love and courage!”

Children across the world were also impacted. Arantza Condie wrote on social media, “When my nine-year-old son heard they were singing, he printed out the sheet music and joined in with the choir.”

Perhaps one of the most unforgettable moments came during the song “Gethsemane.

 ‘Gethsemane’ Goes A Cappella

Gethsemane is a beautiful song that teaches that Jesus Christ’s Atonement was a gift He gave because of His love for each of us. The children sang proudly with love and testimony.

Near the end of the song, the organ stopped, and the children’s voices rose noticeably in volume as they sang in harmony, “This was done by Jesus! The fight was won by Jesus!” A brief moment of silence followed before the organ and the children’s voices returned, subdued now, as they sang, “Gethsemane. Jesus loves me, So He gave His gift to me in Gethsemane.”

Describing that moment, Lesley Hunt said on Instagram, “Voices of angels singing ‘Gethsemane’! When the organ stopped [the line] ‘the fight was won by Jesus’ was unbelievably powerful. I had tears running down my face! Thank you!!”

Another woman was touched by the song and commented on social media, “This song has been a light that has found me in the darkest moments of my life. It played at my grandmother’s funeral and was sung by a Primary my first Sunday at church after finding out my husband was cheating on me. There is so much I cannot fight alone but this is the song’s reminder, the fight has already been won by a loving Savior.”
