“Be it unto me according to thy word.”
This was Mary’s reply to the angel Gabriel after he told her she would be the mother of the Son of God. What do we learn from this simple response, and how can we better follow Mary’s example? Musician Calee Reed explores these questions and more on this 5-minute fireside from LDS Living.
“Can you imagine having that kind of faith—to be able to immediately, completely submit to a plan that was vastly different than anything she had ever imagined for herself?” Reed asks.
Reed points out that the Savior echoed His mother’s sentiment in the garden of Gethsemane when He submitted to the will of the Father.
“I can only imagine that [Mary’s] faith left that imprint on His,” Reed says.
But if you are anything like Reed, this submission to God’s will is not always the easiest thing.

“Total truth moment, I am not very much like Mary naturally. I have a horrible habit of trying to micromanage God in my life. I insist on planning everything out and then I have a really hard time letting go of my plans to accept literally anything else. I believe in God absolutely, but I often struggle to trust Him.”
Although it is at times difficult, Reed suggests that we ask ourselves, “Am I intentionally aligning myself with God’s will for my life?” She promises that as we do so, we will find true peace this Christmas.
