If you have seen the letter from Sister Wendy Nelson to General Authorities floating through your social media feeds and wondered if it was real, Church News confirmed its veracity and published the letter in full today, Monday, April 13.

Before April 2020 general conference, Sister Nelson, wife of President Russell M. Nelson, sent a letter to the wives of the General Authorities. She related the account of the Cricket War of 1848, when a swarm of crickets endangered the pioneers’ food supply until seagulls came and ate the crickets.

“My dear sisters, whom I love more than you would ever believe, you and I are Latter-day women of God, disciples of Jesus Christ, who believe in miracles. Why? Because we know the Source of those miracles. We are perfectly poised to participate in bringing forth the miracle the Lord has in store for the world. (See Bible Dictionary on “prayer.”) “As you and I continue to pray—and fast as we are able—the Lord WILL send ‘seagulls’ to devour OUR ‘crickets’ (aka presently, the Coronavirus).”
