On Sunday, January 20, 2019, the world witnessed a rare event as the sun, moon, and earth all aligned to create a spectacular blood moon, known also as a lunar eclipse. But what made this event even more unique was that this eclipse was also a wolf and supermoon, making this celestial event a rare super blood wolf moon.
A wolf moon, or the first full moon of the year, gets its name for the wolf packs Native Americans would hear outside their villages in winter, according to The Farmers' Almanac.
A supermoon occurs when the moon is at the closest point in its orbit of the Earth, which makes it appear larger.
In celebration of this event, check out these incredible pictures of blood or supermoons captured over LDS temples.
