Let’s be honest—dads are the hardest people to shop for. Every year when Father’s Day rolls around, the list of things they want or need is far too short. And while socks and ties are always a good option, sometimes it’s fun to mix things up. Don’t have any ideas? Try giving him a new belt, cufflinks, or some art for his office.

Or if your dad likes a good book, get him started on some summer reading with one of his favorite gospel topics. Not only will it give him an excuse to dive into some fascinating subjects, but you might just become the favorite of the family while he’s at it (we’re kidding … mostly). In any case, here are seven books that we think we think he’ll love. What can we say except you’re welcome?

Men of God

What could be more appropriate for Father’s Day than a book written for husbands, fathers, sons, ministers, and friends? Robert L. Millet’s Men of God explores how specific principles relate to the men in the Church, including prayer, faith, marriage, and the oath and covenant of the priesthood. Drawing on scripture, the words of the prophets, and personal experience, Millet offers guidance on how men can better act on their desires to be loving husbands and fathers, generous friends and neighbors, and dependable representatives our Savior—in other words, to be men of God.

The Law of Love

For Father’s Day, give your dad something to read by renowned athlete Steve Young. In this book, Young shares insights from his own multifaceted life as well as from others who are scientists, fellow Latter-day Saints, Anglican, atheist, Baptist, Catholic, Confucian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, and secular people of wisdom, as well as from the scriptures. Young proves that whether in football, work, church, or family, the law of love is undefeated.

Real vs. Rumor: How to Dispel Latter-day Myths

Did Joseph Smith really say that? Does the Church have that artifact? How accurate was that story told in Sunday School? Should I trust the information on this website? Can I draw closer to God by learning about history? Real vs. Rumor is the perfect gift for the curious dad who’s ready to go along for a historical ride with author Keith Erekson as he explores Church history myths, rumors, and false quotes to demonstrate how to think effectively about the information that swirls around us in our day. By combining study and faith, this book helps readers deepen discipleship, avoid deception, understand tough topics, and see the hand of God in history and in their own life.
