The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints approved 110 projects in 57 countries to help combat the effects of COVID-19.
The projects include providing food, hygiene products, personal protective equipment, cash, and other commodities to those in need, according to Church News. Beehive Clothing facilities located in Brazil, Mexico, Paraguay, the Philippines, and Utah, which typically manufacture religious clothing, will temporarily shift to sewing masks and gowns needed by healthcare professions.
In Utah, the Relief Society is volunteering to sew 5 million clinical face masks to donate to healthcare workers. The project will be done in partnership with Latter-day Saint Charities, Intermountain Healthcare, and University of Utah Health.
“Latter-day Saint Charities is very lucky because we have partnerships, whether it’s a pandemic or not,” said Sister Sharon Eubank, president of Latter-day Saint Charities and first counselor of the Relief Society General Presidency. “We’ve had trusted relationships over time. So when there is a pandemic, we don’t have to start from scratch. We know exactly how to help each other.”
