12 Things You Might Not Know about These Newly Called Church Leaders

General conference frequently brings new and exciting changes, and this April’s general conference proved to be no exception! From a brand new Young Men General Presidency to the sustaining of nine new General Authority Seventies, you could certainly say this Conference was truly “unforgettable” for these brethren.

• In addition to being recently called as Young Men General President, Brother Steven J. Lund initially met his wife while stationed in Germany. They re-connected with each other after both enrolling at Brigham Young University.
• Brother Ahmad S. Corbitt, newly sustained First Counselor in the Young Men’s Presidency, converted to the Church as a teenager and was baptized on his 18th birthday. Brother Corbitt also worked as a trial lawyer and in public relations.
• Brother Bradley R. Wilcox, Second Counselor in the Young Men’s Presidency, grew up in Provo, Utah but spent a few childhood years living in Ethiopia.

• Prior to being called as a General Authority Seventy, Elder Jorge T. Becerra served as a missionary in the Arcadia California Mission and years later coincidently was called as the Mission President of the Arcadia California Mission.
• Elder Matthew S. Holland, a General Authority Seventy, is the son of Elder Jeffery R. Holland and even spoke as a 17-year-old during the April 1983 General Conference priesthood session.
• Elder William K. Jackson, a General Authority Seventy, has lived a great portion of his life overseas. As a regional medical officer in the U.S. Foreign Service for 23 years, Elder Jackson has traveled and lived all over the world, including Honduras, Algeria, Afghanistan, and India.

• Prior to being called as a General Authority Seventy, Elder Jeremy R. Jaggi served as a missionary in the Ohio Cleveland Mission and was the mission president of the Utah Ogden Mission.
• In addition to being called as a General Authority Seventy, Elder Kelly R. Johnson has previously worked as a forensic accountant and served as mission president in the Thailand Bangkok Mission.
• Elder Thierry K. Mutombo, a General Authority Seventy, was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and was converted along with his family to the gospel at the age of 10. Elder Mutombo has worked for the Church in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well.
• Elder Adeyinka A. Ojediran, a General Authority Seventy, was the first Nigerian and West African Latter-day Saint to be called to the position. Elder Ojediran was born in Ibadan, Nigeria and converted to the Church when he was 23.
• Elder Ciro Schmeil, a General Authority Seventy, earned his degree in architectural studies from the University of Utah and eventually worked as head of real estate development for Walmart Brasil.
• Prior to being called as a General Authority Seventy, Elder Moisés Villanueva served as a full-time missionary in the Mexico Hermosillo Mission and was the mission president of the California Arcadia Mission.
