MR says: Local highlight of one man recently called to the First Quorum of the Seventy. Great photo gallery at the full article.

After 35 years in the Houston area - first as an Oilers' Luv Ya Blue-days quarterback and then a longtime KHOU-TV sports director - Giff Nielsen and his wife, Wendy, are heading to Salt Lake City to serve as a general authority of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Nielsen, 58, will be part of what is called the First Quorum of the Seventy and his job for the next year will be to learn how church headquarters operates and to speak at church conferences around the world.

My mom was born in the same stake as Donny and as an infant share a blanket with him at a stake picnic.

Years ago while attending BYU, I was putting gas in my car and looked up to see Donny putting gas in the car next to me. When they were young and living in Ogden, my Aunt and Uncle lived across the fence from the Osmonds. Donny's wife, Debbie, worked at the bank I used in Provo years ago.

My husband and I were VIP guests at their concert in Vegas, which means we could meet them afterwards. I spoke with Donnie, told him I lived in Van Nuys when he lived in Arleta, so we attended the same Stake Center! My husband told Marie that he advised our sons to seek after the 10-cow wife, someone just like Marie!!! I thanked them both for keeping true to their values and standards in the entertainment world, where that is so rare. They both were genuinely nice and appreciative of our comments.
