Thought: “Virtue is a prerequisite to entering the Lord’s holy temples and to receiving the Spirit’s guidance. Virtue 'is a pattern of thought and behavior based on high moral standards.' It encompasses chastity and moral purity. Virtue begins in the heart and in the mind. It is nurtured in the home. It is the accumulation of thousands of small decisions and actions. Virtue is a word we don’t hear often in today’s society, but the Latin root word virtus means strength. Virtuous women and men possess a quiet dignity and inner strength. They are confident because they are worthy to receive and be guided by the Holy Ghost.” —Elaine S. Dalton, former Young Women General President

Song: “More Holiness Give Me,” Hymn #131

Scripture:
Articles of Faith 1:13: “We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.”

(This would be a good time to teach the family where the Articles of Faith are found in the scriptures, at the conclusion of the Pearl of Great Price.)

•    “We believe . . . in doing good to all men”: Heavenly Father has commanded us to love Him and to love others. We show our love for others through our thoughts and actions. One way we show our love is by doing good to others. What are ways you can do good to others? Tell how you would do good to:
o    A new boy at school.
o    Your mother when she is really tired.
o    An old man that lives next door.
o    Someone you know who is serving a mission.
     o    A new Primary teacher.
•    “If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.” To “seek” means to “look for.” Even when you think you are already doing good things, you can still seek after more things that are good. What good things could you seek?
o    Print off the following information and hand a copy to each family member:
Put an X next to the things below that are virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy.
         ___ butterflies
         ___ the scriptures
         ___ reading
         ___ picnics
         ___ writing in a journal
         ___ music lessons
         ___ fighting
         ___ talking back to someone
         ___ swearing
         ___ rainbows

Activity:
"We Seek After These Things" Treasure Hunt
•    Step 1:  In advance, hide a dozen or so numbered slips of paper throughout the house (or yard). Each slip of paper should contain a clue as to where the next slip of paper is hidden. The last location will be the treasure (a bag of candy or a prize). Start at the treasure and work backward when laying out the course and the clues—it is easier to give clues to where you have just been.
•    Step 2:  Give everyone the first clue for the location of the first hidden slip of paper.
•    Step 3:  Let the search begin!
