At least nine LDS families have lost their homes to wildfires that at press time continue to plague communities throughout the western United States. A dry spring and recent hot, dry and windy weather created extreme fire conditions throughout the region. Since mid-June, dozens of wildfires have burned thousands of acres of land. Of primary concern in Utah was the Wood Hollow Fire located in Sanpete County in central Utah. More than 40,000 acres were lost, along with some 30 homes. More than 1,200 people had to be evacuated and the American Red Cross utilized a local high school as a shelter, according to the Church's world disaster report.
