December 2009 Sharing Time: Remembering Christ

by Shauna Gibby

This sharing time will engage the children in an activity to help them remember some stories of Jesus' life.

Preparation: Obtain two copies of the following pictures (make photo copies or print from lds.org): Gospel Art Kit 200 or 201, The Nativity; GAK 242, Jesus and His Mother; GAK 208, Baptism of Jesus; GAK 214, Stilling the Storm; GAK 213, Healing the Blind Man; GAK 225, The Last Supper; GAK 227, Jesus Praying; GAK 233, The Resurrected Lord.

Mount each picture on colored paper. Using magnets or push pins post them, in random order, picture side down, on the chalkboard or bulletin board at the front of the room.

Presentation: Have the children take turns trying to find two matching pictures. When a pair is found, leave them turned to the picture side and have a child briefly retell the story depicted in the picture (help them as needed). Sing songs to reinforce the messages.

Suggested story summaries and songs:

200 or 201: When it was nearly time for Jesus to be born, Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem to pay taxes. Bethlehem was crowded with people, and the inns were full. Joseph and Mary found a place to stay in a stable. There the baby Jesus was born. Mary wrapped the babe in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger. "Away in a Manger," Children's Songbook, p. 42

242: When Jesus was 12 years old, He went with His family to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover. On the way home, Joseph and Mary realized that Jesus was not with their group. They went back to Jerusalem to look for Him. After three days of searching, they found Jesus teaching the wise men in the temple.
