Teen Volunteerism

While these institutions are critical for fostering service opportunities for youth, there are three additional factors involved.

Opportunity. Teens are four times more likely to volunteer if they are asked to do so than if they are not.

Positive Role Models. Teenagers who have positive role models in their lives are twice as likely to volunteer as teens without. In fact, a youth from a family where one parent volunteers is nearly three times as likely to volunteer on a regular basis.

Age. Volunteering is a habit that is most easily cultivated in childhood. Adults who volunteered in their youth are more than twice as likely to volunteer as those who did not.
