Preparation: Put the following items in a large duffel bag or pillow case. A globe or picture of the earth, a CTR ring, baptismal clothes, a Family Home Evening manual, a baby doll, a smiley face (cut out of cardstock), a picture of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ (Primary Manual 6, picture 4), blue prints or house plans (these are available online--search "house plans").
Presentation: Show the bag to the children. Explain that you are going to talk about the plan of salvation, and the bag contains some clues to help remind them of the plan. Invite a child to come pull an item out of the bag. Have them think how that item reminds us of the plan of salvation. Prompt them and expand on what they say as needed. Suggested ideas follow.
Earth. Part of Heavenly Father's plan was for us to come to earth to gain experience. Because we are on the earth, we know that we accepted His plan.
CTR ring. When we are obedient and choose the right we are following the plan.
Baptismal clothes. While on the earth we make and keep sacred covenants, baptism is one of them.
Family Home Evening manual. The plan calls for us to have a family to take care of us and teach us about Heavenly Father. We want to be with our family forever.
Baby doll. (This represents a baby.) Being born and having an earthly body are important parts of the plan.
Smiley face. When Heavenly Father presented the plan, we shouted for joy. Now, the plan helps us to be happy.
Picture of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. We lived with Heavenly Father before we came to earth. He presented the plan. Jesus Christ supported the plan and offered to pay for our sins, so we can return and live with them again.
House plans. Just like a building or home needs a plan before it can be built, we needed a plan so we would know how to return to live with Heavenly Father.
Sing songs that help reinforce the ideas taught, such as: "I Lived in Heaven" (Children's Songbook, 4), "When I Am Baptized"(CS,103), "Families Can Be Together Forever" (CS, 188), and "I Will Follow God's Plan" (CS, 164).
