A Letter from a Missionary in Paris: "It's Very Dark in France Now, We Need Everyone’s Help Finding Light"

When I heard about the bombings in Paris on Nov. 13, turned on the television, and watched the carnage unfold, my heart broke for the people of Paris, for the people of France, and for victims of terrorism around the world.

Over the next few days, and with continued terrorist activity throughout the world, one persistent thought kept running through my mind, “Oh, how the world needs the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Not surprisingly, these tragic events came up in my various classes as others are also trying to grapple with so many troubling events in today’s world. One of my students has a brother currently serving a mission in the France Paris Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In class, she mentioned an email she received on the Monday after the Nov. 13 attacks in Paris and shared some of her brother’s “on the ground” thoughts and feelings. I asked if she (and her brother) would be willing to let me share parts of that email, and they graciously consented.

His letter began by describing a challenge to missionaries from his mission president: To find one investigator each day for the next 40 days, to pray with them and teach them Jesus Christ’s doctrine.
